As much as you may have tried to protect your skin during the hot summer months, avoid sun spots, sunburns, overexposure to the sun can be inevitable. The humidity also increases skin moisture levels, increase oil production and sweat causes clogged pores.
But don’t fret, Fall is all about repairing your skin and prepping it for the coming months. During the summer, skin becomes dehydrated, along with increased sun exposure from the ultraviolet damage can contribute to discoloration and wrinkle formation. Here are some tips on how to transition and repair your skin for fall and winter.
EXFOLIATE
Exfoliating weekly should already be apart of your skin care regimen. We’re really big into not over exfoliating. While many brands may tell you to exfoliate two or three times a week, we find that over exfoliating excessively can leave your skin feeling raw and vulnerable against the elements and cold dry weather. To help restore lost moisture, and prep the skin for the colder months ahead reach for our Clarify Face Masque + Scrub to clog pores, help even skin tone and leave skin feeling refreshed.
CLEANSE, GENTLY
Cleansing is the first step in skin care, but during the colder and cooler temperatures reach for a gentle cleanser does not strip skin of natural oils. This is where we would advise you to avoid retinoids and glycolic acid as they strip the skin. The Healing Face Cleanser pulls double duty by simultaneously cleansing the skin and healing the skin. It also contains glycerin, magnetic and dirt-attracting Rose Clay and antibacterial protecting essential oils like rosemary and lime.
UP YOUR ANTIOXIDANTS
Adding antioxidants to skincare regimen helps neutralize the sun exposure. What are antioxidants exactly? Antioxidants are molecules that inhibit the oxidation of other molecules caused by UV rays, pollution, smoking, and even stress. This oxidation leads to radicals that damage lipids and protein which are key to healthy skin. Antioxidant, like vitamin A, C, E and retinoids (which is a form of Vitamin A, is an antioxidant) help protect skin from these free radicals. With time, free radical damage can result in accelerated premature skin aging, sagging skin, uneven skin tone, and even skin cancer.
HYDRATION
You can’t get enough of hydration. The temperature and season changes, the cooler and colder air dry skin out. What does this mean? Well, it means you need to incorporate moisturizing elements into every step of your skincare routine. Did you know that oil cleansers are less drying than foaming cleansers? They work to remove dirt, oil, sunscreen, dirt, and makeup much better than typical cleansers.
A benefit to hydrating and adding moisture to skin during cooler months prevents itchiness and blotchiness. This also includes drinking plenty of water. As for skincare, reach for products that contain Ceramides, Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid, and Ceramides. For more staying power, add in your favorite face oil under that moisturizer. For protection during the cold dry weather, you can use our Nourishing Face Moisturizer paired with our Balancing Face Serum it has healing Yucca, moisturizing Glycerin, and infused with Squalene.
