There are 6 main skin types categories that include oily skin, dry skin, normal skin, aging skin, sensitive skin and combination skin. Knowing which category your skin falls into makes it so much easier to treat, and buy products formulated for your skin.

OILY SKIN

Oily skin looks shiny with enlarged pores mostly around the nose, chin and forehead.. Skin is prone to blackheads, acne and blemishes. The key to picking products for oily skin types is to choose lightweight formulas and to only layer as many products as you feel comfortable with to avoid “heavy” products that may clog pores.

Using a body moisturizer not formulated for the face can be to heavy and leave skin feeling oily throughout the day. Or skipping a moisturizer can make your face dehydrated which will lead to the skin to start overproducing sebum to compensate. Try a light moisturizer that’s buildable. Jacq’s Nourishing Face Moisturizer contains Yucca, a natural source of vitamin C is also a key component in the production of collagen. It's light and easily absorbs into the skin, leaving your skin feeling like your not wearing anything.

NORMAL SKIN

With normal skin, your pores are barely visible, usually has an even texture and skin tone. The pores appear small, pimples are rare and mostly occur during younger years. Here are a list of products that great on normal skin. Click here.

DRY SKIN

Dry skin appears dull, rough and prone to cracking. Individuals with dry skin also have less elasticity in skin and prone to fine lines, wrinkles and skin may have red and/or dry patchy.

When using products for dry skin, layering is key. Think toner, moisturizers and rich emollients. Many times, individuals with combination skin mistaken their skin as dry because of the wrong products and ingredients that are drying on the skin.

SKINCARE TIP:

If you find that your face feels tight after cleansing, you might not truly be a dry skin type, you are using the wrong product. More than likely your current cleanser is drying you out.

SENSITIVE SKIN

Sensitive skin is easily irritated and skin is considered extremely delicate. When the wrong products or ingredients are used this can lead to inflamed skin, itchiness, rashes and severe irritation. This skin type is prone to broken capillaries primarily around the nose and cheeks.

The most misdiagnosed skin type is sensitive skin. For individuals with specific allergies, hormonal concerns, or constantly breaking out due to triggers like milk, estrogen, dermatitis or fragrances may be the culprit.

A great ingredient for sensitive skin is carrot root tea extract an ideal ingredients for soothing skin and cellular turnover. Reach for Jacq’s Balancing Face Serum which contains rose geranium and carrot both great for cellular regeneration and feeing the skin.

COMBINATION SKIN

Considered the most common skin type, combination skin is exactly what it sounds like. A combination of the skin types above. Dry and oily skin or sensitive and normal skin. Typically individuals with combination skin have visible pores, smooth skin and an oily T-zone (chin, nose and forehead). Blackheads, hyperpigmentation and whiteheads are common around the nose.

Remember when it comes to skin types nothing is set in stone, a routine full of products formulated for dry skin could be too rich and end up clogging your pores. Sticking to ingredients that are multi-tasking can help address and combat more than one skin concern.

Thank you for the information, which of your products do you recommend for combination skin. I need a daily cleanser to help minimize my pores and a moisturizer that hydrates to eliminate sebum. I definitely have an issue with the only t-zone and white heads on my nose.
