"Nothing brings people together like good food."

It's officially autumn, but it still feels like summer. While fall calls for hearty comfort foods, we're reaching for something a little different to help transition our taste buds to the cooler months ahead. A surprisingly delicious and sweet smoothie bowl that detoxes. What better way to welcome the fall equinox and say goodbye to the summer heat with a tasty and refreshing dragonfruit and charcoal smoothie bowl. Yep, we're eating charcoal.

I'm not sure if it was just me, but this summer was extremely hot and humid. To help my body recover from the scorching heat I'm reaching for a cool drink that will help prep my digestive tract for the coming months and replenish my energy level from the draining sun with a smoothie bowl topped with antioxidants, omega-fatty acids, and electrolytes. At Jacq's, we're really into smoothie bowls and activated bamboo charcoal is great for anti-aging, digestive cleansing and reducing high cholesterol. It’s important to routinely cleanse the digestive tract to support overall health and wellness.

This recipe is considered a cleanse so for the next couple of days, we suggest eat only organic fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meat, and wild fish.  We also advise drinking lots of water to help digestion. I will mention this recipe is quite delicious and addictive, but since you are consuming activated charcoal we suggestion eating this once or twice a month max. Please find the recipe below.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup frozen dragonfruit + ½ cup of frozen mango
  • ½ cup fresh kale
  • ½ cup macadamia or rice nut milk
  • 1 tbsp of maca powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon activated charcoal powder or 1 crushed capsule
  • 1 frozen banana

Toppings:

  • ¼ cup of coconut flakes
  • ½ cup of dragonfruit or berries
  • ½ cup of kiwi

Add the nut milk and ingredients in the blender. Blend on high for one minute, until thick and creamy. Pour into a bowl and add toppings.

Enjoy!
